Less than a month after Molly Slicker Parry started her job as Marketing Manager at a Downtown Orlando staffing firm, BlueWave Resource Partners, her hometown of Anna Maria Island was essentially destroyed by Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene. Her loved one’s jobs, well-being, and family business (Slicker’s Eatery) were all in danger. Immediately upon seeing the news, Molly’s manager and BlueWave President, Laura Danforth offered help.
“The next day I hopped on my weekly meeting with Laura and she immediately said “Go. You need to be with family. Let us know any way we can help.” From there, BlueWave Resource Partners wrote a generous check to financially support the purchase of necessary supplies for hurricane relief and the plan was set in motion to gather the team in Orlando to come down to Anna Maria to help however needed. The team met at Slicker’s Eatery, and under the direction of local Bob Slicker, were deployed throughout the community to help.
Last Friday, amidst their busiest onboarding season in the company’s 10 year history, the team took the day off to serve the Gulf Coast community. 13 BlueWave team members put in a full day’s work throughout Cortez and Bradenton Beach. Some moved heavy appliances and furniture from flooded homes in Cortez, some took chainsaws to help cut downed trees, and the whole team gathered to shovel the layers and layers of sand that were blocking roadways and parking lots outside of Tortuga Inn on Bradenton Beach.
The team hopes to inspire other corporations to do the same. Yes, giving financially is a massive help but if able, come out and volunteer your time and effort to make a difference. There is still so much need. If you’re lucky enough to be unaffected directly, direct your capability towards those who need it.
